Welcoming your little one into the world is one of the most beautiful and emotional moments in life, and capturing those early days through photography is truly priceless. As a newborn photographer working directly in your home, I’ve had the joy of documenting countless families and their precious new beginnings.
Here are some friendly and practical tips to help you prepare for a relaxed, memorable, and absolutely perfect newborn photo session:
1. The Best Time Is… Early!
The ideal window for newborn photography is within the first 5–14 days after birth. During this time, babies tend to sleep more soundly and curl up naturally, making it easier to gently pose them in those sweet, dreamy positions you see in my portfolio.
2. Home Sweet Home – Why At-Home Sessions Are the Best.
One of the greatest advantages of an in-home session is comfort. You and your baby are in your familiar environment, which means less stress and more ease. No need to pack diaper bags, bottles, or outfits — everything you need is already there. Your baby will feel safe, and that peaceful energy always shows in the photos.
Plus, I bring everything I need — from blankets and wraps to adorable props and lighting — so your living room becomes a cosy little photo studio in no time. You can even enjoy a cup of tea while I work!

3. Warmth & Feeding: Keep Baby Happy
Before I arrive, try to keep your home warm — newborns love cosy temperatures, especially when we’re photographing them swaddled or without clothes. Also, feeding your baby just before the session can help them feel full, calm, and sleepy, which is exactly what we want for those snuggly shots.
4. Outfits? Simple Is Best
While I bring a variety of props and wraps, I always recommend keeping the baby’s clothing simple if you'd like to include your own items. Neutrals, soft pastels, and cosy textures photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your little one’s expressions and features.
5. Family Involvement Is Welcome
Want to include siblings, grandparents, or even the family pet? Absolutely! Having everyone involved makes the session even more special, and since we’re in your home, it’s easy and natural to bring everyone together.
6. Relax and Trust the Process
Newborn sessions require patience, and that’s okay! We’ll take breaks for cuddles, feeding, or diaper changes as needed. My priority is to ensure baby (and mama) feel comfortable and relaxed throughout.
Final Thought
Every family is different, every baby is unique — and that’s what makes newborn photography so magical. At-home photo sessions allow us to capture those tiny, fleeting moments in a peaceful and meaningful way.
So, if you’re an expecting or new mama and you’re considering a newborn session, feel free to reach out! I’d love to create beautiful memories with your little one, right in the comfort of your home.
